KENYA'S POLITICAL SITUATION SINCE INDEPENDENCE

Since independence Kenya has gone through Major political milestones that has transformed the whole country interms of political ideologies and  democracy. Right from formation of African democratic union (KADU) as a rival to Kenyan African
Union by Moi. Later on Jomo Kenyatta convinced moi to merge the two parties. This was simply a way of countering opposition of Kenyatta's government by moi. This stabilized country's political situation during Jomo Kenyatta's reigh. Moi succeeded Jomo Kenyatta after his death in 1978. This is where things started going south.

Moi then declared Kenya a one party state and barred all other political parties. Moi's regine was very unpopular among Kenyans and highly condemned by human rights organizations such as Amnesty international. Moi had promised Kenyans that he would follow Kenyatta's footsteps but ironically he established a dictatorship regime which caused suffering to many Kenyans as a result of limited representation in the government and enormous corruption. This was one of the greatest betrayal by the government to Kenyans.

Kibakis takeover from 2002 brought a breath of fresh air in Kenya due to his numerous development projects in his country. During this time Kenyans were privileged to acquire free education which was one of the main kibakis achievement

In 2013 Uhuru Kenyatta succeeded Mwai kibaki after defeating Raila Odinga under Jubilee party. However his reign was greatly influenced by huge foreign loans which at some point stagnated Kenya's economy. This led to high cost of living due to price inflation with an effort from the government settle the debts. However, Uhuru Kenyatta had installed several multi-million project which would anchor his legacy due to their impact on Kenyans. Some of them include Standard Gauge Railway,Kipevu oil terminal, Makupa bridge and others.

In 2022 general elections, William Ruto who was then deputy president took over after winning over Raila Odinga. Raila laid a petition in the supreme court to accusing Ruto of cheating but it upheld his win. With  alot of unkept promises which he made during campaigns, Ruto's leadership become unpopular across the country. Due to unfriendly economic policies his leadership has been opposed by the young generation popularly known as( Gen Zs )who held country wide protest to oppose his economic policies mostly over taxation. Kenyans have been suffering due to high cost of living which was brought about by ovartaxation by the government.

Kenya has abundant resources which when well utilized it would improve livelyhood of its citizens. Kenyans should also learn to wisely chose not out promises or wealth but competent eligible leaders who would take the country to next level interms of economic development and promoting democracy.
